Meet Hamish Annan

Hamish Annan is an interdisciplinary artist currently based in Auckland.

Hamish is known for his work as an actor, writer, voiceover artist, acting coach, and performance artist.

He grew up in the Waikato town of Te Awamutu. His first memory of acting is understudying the talking dog in a primary school play in which he forgot his lines. His passion for acting has grown over the years and his line learning skills have also improved.

Annan moved to Dunedin to study at Otago University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Theatre Studies.

While in Dunedin Annan staged several successful interactive performances. He incorporated hypnotism and psychological illusions into his performance. His interest in human behaviour is still evident in his practice.

In 2015 he made his professional debut in the theatre playing Chadwick in the Fortune Theatre production of Simon Stephens’ Punk Rock, for which he was nominated for the Dunedin Theatre Awards’ Male Performer of the Year.

After graduating Annan moved back up north to pursue a career focused on acting. In 2016 Hamish trained for a year with The Actors’ Program.

The first solo show he wrote and performed in Auckland, 93%, directed by Cherie Moore, was awarded Best New Zealand Script, Best Actor, The Wallace Arts Trust Emerging Artist Awarded, and the People’s Choice Award at the 2016 Short+Sweet Festival.

Since then Annan has made appearances on productions for television, stage, and independent films as well as continuing to do voice-over work and write. His recent credits include Power Rangers, The Price of Sex, Mr. Corman, Ao-Terror-Oa, and Mister Melancholy.

He is very excited to share his latest project, Access, with audiences around Aotearoa and Australia.
